Acquiring the GMK5150XL to replace an obsolete 95-tonne, five axle machine in its fleet, the company said it opted for the stronger five-axle crane to cope with customer demands for lifting bigger loads in shorter times.
“We were so happy with our reliable GMK5095, and it gave us nine years of great service,” said Harry Pater, owner of the Dutch crane hire company. “But we wanted to go bigger and do more, so we opted for the GMK5150XL.”
According to the manufacturer, the crane’s taxi charts are “outstanding”, delivering easier roadability as well as transport savings. The crane possesses a 68.7m, seven-section main boom, and the option to include a 17.8m swingaway jib extension, an eight-metre boom extension, whilst it is powered by a EUROMOT 5 Mercedes-Benz engine. The crane can carry a total of 44.5 tonnes of counterweight, falling under a 12-tonne per axle limit with 10.2 tonnes of counterweight.
According to Pater, the crane has thrived instantly since arriving at the Dutch crane hire company.
“We have not been disappointed; in just three months, we can already see the difference. It’s easy to operate, runs smoothly, and already shows a strong return on investment for us,” he said. “The crane has an impressive load chart and an enormous reach with its 68.7m main boom. On top of that, it’s capable of handling some really heavy loads.”
The 150-tonne capacity crane has since been spotted lifting six-tonne panels at a radius of 16m, configured with 30.9 tonnes of counterweight and utilising Grove’s MaxBase feature.
